Our little Cheetah snuggling up to his favorite little turtle. I'm enjoying this time when Duncan can just throw on any old animal costume and be happy as a clam. Someday he'll come to me and say, "Mom, I want to be a ham sandwich for Halloween." And until that day, I am going to relish in the easiness of a hand-me-down zip up animal suit.

Deep Thoughts

Duncan: When I grow up I'm going to be a dad

Me: Yep.

Duncan: When Jessica grows up she is going to be a mom.

Me: Yep.

Duncan: When you grow up and are a baby, we'll be your parents.

Me: Well, that's not really how it works. I won't ever be a baby again. I'm just going to get older and older until I'm old like Great Grandpa.

Duncan: And then you will die?

Me: Yes. That's what happens when we get old and our bodies stop working.

Duncan: But I will always want my mommy.

Me: *getting teary eyed*

Duncan: And Fin will always want you to feed him.

Me: *holding back giggles*

Duncan Said...

he was begging me to pick him up and carry him to the house and when I refused he sluggishly followed and whined, "I'm running out of
gas!"

He used this one again with Jimmy when he didn't want to walk up the hill. He told Jimmy that his LEGS were running out gas.

At church a few weeks ago we sat on a side bench near the windows. Duncan was playing in the curtains and when I asked him to stop he said impatiently, "I'm just checking the weather, honey." I let him check the weather and he declared it, "beauuuuutiful!"

Tonight we had some friends over. The kids thankfully were keeping themselves entertained in the play room for quite awhile. Eventually someone lost it and we heard screams. Our friend jumped up to tend to it, and said she found Duncan corralling her kid in the corner. We could hear him yelling, "I'll deal with her!"

Help, I've Fallen in a Rut and I Can't Get Out

A no exercising, eating too much junk and staying up too late rut.

I'll tackle one at a time. That's all I can handle. So...I guess this is my last late night. The other two are just too overwhelming right now.

My Little Sanity Stealer

Don't be fooled by his cuteness. He really is out to get me! Take, for instance, what he did to me last night...

8:30AM Goes to bed
11:00PM Wakes up and eats
12:30AM Wakes up and eats some more
2:45AM Wakes up and I rock him back to sleep
4:45AM Wakes up and I try to rock him, then try the swing
*Cries*
5:30AM Eats and sleeps
7:30AM Wakes and snacks
8:30AM Up just in time to start getting ready for church.

Sorry, for all those who have already been subjected to my whining. It really is all my fault. I should have been tougher in the beginning. We let him cry tonight...we'll see if it makes a difference.

Night Off

Do you ever have those evenings when you just decide to do nothing? You know, like after you eat dinner you blog stock instead of do dishes. Those nights when, instead of fold the laundry while you watch T.V., you sprawl on the couch with your feet propt up on your honey's legs (who by the way, is much more accustomed to these "nights off" and is completely immuned to the next day guilt). You know those evenings when you don't mind giving in to your two year old's request to lay in his race car bed with him until he falls asleep playing with the moles on your neck...(or as Duncan likes to call them, nipples). It's not like there isn't still shredded cheese and avocado bits on our dinner table or a big luandry basket of clean clothes by the couch. I just decided not to wash them and not to fold them...but instead to do NOTHING. And since I haven't blogged for a while, I figured, why not -it's not like I have anything better to do.

*it's amazing how I manage to stay up ridiculously late even on my night off. Oh no...I better go to bed to curb the early on set of guilt.
