TV Tokens
Duncan's third Birthday is looming and it looks like I will most definitely be the mom of a diapered 3 year old. I had this great idea to use T.V. as incentive for using the potty. I got a bag of pennies and called them T.V. tokens. Then I found a jar and put a sign on it that reads,

Backside
So, after living without a full length mirror, I mean living without even a 2/3 length mirror for almost 2 years, it's a bit alarming being in a home with so many opportunities to see so much of myself. I had no idea how similar Finlay and I look from behind.

What year is it again?
2009? Really? Because I find it hard to believe that it's almost 2010 and we haven't found a better way for plantar wart removal. I should probably be too embarrassed to discuss the topic but...I'm not. This suspicious little thing has been hurting so bad the past few weeks. I had to wear Crocs to the mall. I already felt like a frumpy dumpy mom and completely out of place. The Crocs, I'm sure were the convincing footwear for anyone who might have thought I might have been cool once.

Help, I've Fallen in a Rut and I Can't Get Out
A no exercising, eating too much junk and staying up too late rut.
I'll tackle one at a time. That's all I can handle. So...I guess this is my last late night. The other two are just too overwhelming right now.

Night Off
Do you ever have those evenings when you just decide to do nothing? You know, like after you eat dinner you blog stock instead of do dishes. Those nights when, instead of fold the laundry while you watch T.V., you sprawl on the couch with your feet propt up on your honey's legs (who by the way, is much more accustomed to these "nights off" and is completely immuned to the next day guilt). You know those evenings when you don't mind giving in to your two year old's request to lay in his race car bed with him until he falls asleep playing with the moles on your neck...(or as Duncan likes to call them, nipples). It's not like there isn't still shredded cheese and avocado bits on our dinner table or a big luandry basket of clean clothes by the couch. I just decided not to wash them and not to fold them...but instead to do NOTHING. And since I haven't blogged for a while, I figured, why not -it's not like I have anything better to do.
*it's amazing how I manage to stay up ridiculously late even on my night off. Oh no...I better go to bed to curb the early on set of guilt.

Letters
Dear Duncan,
Today I heard you naming your Cheerios. You named them Jessica, Kelsi, Darrell, Ashley...all the names of your friends and their families. Funny but scary...seeing that in the end you ate them all.
Today we danced to "Bubbly" to get your mind off of you know what. You see, you like to eat a little bit every 2 hours instead of a lot a bit every 3 or 4 hours. It drives me crazy, but our little dance was a nice perk. I would spend all day smiling and cuddling with you, but alas, there are dishes, laundry, and messes a-callin'.

Jimmy is Back
So, Jimmy has been at a sales conference in Tucson for the past 5 days. I had all these big plans for his return. Clean house, warm dinner, cute wife. He came home to a half vacuumed living room (not to mention the mess he had to trample through to get to bed), cold pizza, and a wife who hasn't brushed her hair in 3 days. Fortunately our less than perfect home still proved better than Arizona heat and a near vomit inducing plane ride.

Warning: Long Post Ahead
We have had a busy summer. Jimmy is pretty amazing at working as little as possible. Which is nice. He brings home a paycheck AND I get a summer with my husband. Anway, 2 weeks ago we had tons of family in town for Finlay's blessing. In fact, we had so much family in town, we weren't able to invite all our friends to the big event. I'm so sorry friends. We love you and will think of another way to lure you up to our little cave of an apartment soon.
This little thing was my big project, completed at 2am Sunday morning. It actually didn't take that long. I just didn't start until 11pm, only to realize my sewing scissors were missing. I got back from Wal-mart at midnight.
Here's our little old man baby looking fine and scottish in his family tartan. (and his big brother looking mischievious in his Target tartan)
Well, after having gobs of family around and feeding 50 people we decided we just hadn't had enough. The following Tuesday we headed to Denver for what originally was planned as a "girl's sewing" trip. It turned into a "men's playing with dirt and rocks" trip. Ok, so I wouldn't exactly call it playing, but there was plenty of dirt and rocks.
except for this...this is definitely playing!
and some more playing... This is before the big men turned the sand box into a beautiful patio.

Hello Old Friend
I don't know what got into me today, but I actually went running. Ok, it was more like a jog. You know one of those jogs that is actually slower than a fast walk. That was me. Anyway, speed is irrelevant. The big news here is my knee. I only jogged a mile but there was no pain. I used to jog quite a bit back in the day. Then I went on a cruise. When I got home from the cruise I went for a run. This is when the pain in my knee started. Ever since, every time I've tried to run my knee starts hurting whithin the first mile. It quickly worsens and I have to walk. I wouldn't say I LOVE to run and I'm definitely not a "runner", but I do love the conveniece of running. You don't need a gym. You just go. There's freedom in that. Anyway, I've missed it. I'm crossing my figers that this wasn't just a fluke. Whatever it is...it's movtivation to go running again. That's enough for now.

Confessions of a Desperate Mom
1. I spank Duncan.
2. I let Finn sleep on his belly in the morning so I can get a little bit more sleep.
3. I may have cleaned poop off the bathroom floor...not sure how long it had been there.
4. I taught my child how to pick his nose. He wouldn't let ME do it and a I can't stand seeing those boogies in there.
5. I shut my eyes when I brush my teeth. It's a nice break.
6. During my pregnancy I got into the habit of flushing every other time. It just seemed like a waste. (no pun intended)
7. I often forget when I'm watching someone else's child on the playground.

Thank Goodness for Barf
Yes, I am grateful Dunks got the stomach flu and threw up all night. I would be a lot more grateful if I didn't have to clean it up but that's not the point. The point is, I was forced to stay inside my house most of the day rather than lounge outside in a camping chair avoiding stuff at home. As a result I got lots of big laundry done...you know...sheets and blankets stuff. I also managed to finally put Finn's clothes away (thank you Duncan for emptying all the contents of Finn's dresser onto the floor) . I even got my maternity clothes gathered...not put away but at least not taking up valuable closet space. Anyway... Duncan, I'm sorry you were so sick last night but thank you for sleeping until 11am, followed by hours of Curious George. You're the best =)

A Little Bit of Sleep, A Whole Lot of Food
That pretty much sums up my life right now, although I can't complain too much about either. The sleep is limited but still more abundant than to first time around. The food is plentiful for both mom and baby. Good for our bellies, not so good for mom's boobies...OUCH!

Happy Easter Morning
Duncan was singing this all day in his sweet little tuneless way..."Happy Easter Morning." It makes me smile to think about. It makes me smile to think about this great DAY! I think the greatness of the day is really due to the greatness of my decisions last night. I passed up "fun time" with friend to stay home and work on sharing time. Good decision number one. I turned on a movie, but then turned it off and took a shower instead! Good decision number 2. Lastly, before going to bed (before midnight might I add), I printed all the recipes I needed for today's dinner and wrote a "To Do" list for Sunday morning and Primary. Good decision number 3. What a difference a little preparation can make. I even managed to keep relatively calm and collected when on top of sharing time, I had to fill in for our chorister. Dinner went well, even with a last minute change in venue and number of mouths. I think I've mentioned this before but, sometimes I have to work really hard at appearing laid back, but today it was just peaceful.
Primary was so awesome! At first, teaching our youngster primary about the resurrection, seemed a bit overwhelming. I didn't want to incorporate games with eggs or candy. I wanted to really focus on Jesus and the resurrection and help them learn by the spirit. Somehow it worked. Primary was peaceful. I felt it and most importantly I think the kids felt it. Amazing.
The last great thing about my day...my HUSBAND. Because Jimmy typically likes to avoid seriousness at all costs, I treasure the "real" moments. Amidst the silliness, I sometimes forget the MAN that I married. I married a faithful man with an amazing desire and focus to do good. In our few years of marriage I have watched life shape him into a supportive husband, a successful provider, and a GREAT father. My heart is full today. I'm can't help feel an overwhelming sense of love as I reflect on the GREAT things in my life. "HAPPY EASTER MORNING"

Kind of Bragging a Little Bit
This is an impressive game Duncan likes to play. He actually listens for the sounds. He hasn't just memorized what words start with. We have talked about "SH" sound but I had never asked him what an SH word started with. I was pretty impressed.

Skinny Mirrors at the OB-GYN - Brilliant!
So I caught a glimpse of myself in the full length mirror while I was waiting in the exam room for my Doc. We don't own a full length mirror so I was curious and took another look. Now, I know I'm not a huge pregnant woman and have already admitted to liking my prego bod but this definitely was a skinny mirror. My legs looked so thin, as if they didn't even rub together when I walked. It was awesome!
Duncan would like to interrupt my blogging session by saying.....
"Cindermellon" "It's a kind of Lizard"
Also, earlier today he said something really smart. I asked him how he knew that and he replied,
"cause I'm a smart little monkey." I have to agree =)

Curvy, Low Rise, S-t-r-e-t-c-h
is what the tag says on my jeans I just bought from D.I. I was looking for some jeans to experiment with and make into maternity pants, but when I saw this tag I thought, "These might work just the way they are." I was right. Speaking of jeans, I've thought about buying some skinny jeans. I figure if I'm ever going to pull it off, it would be now -the only time in my life when my upper body is bigger than my lower. (I'm pretty sure skinny jeans and pear shaped don't go together).

Good Pain
I waxed my legs today. It's a first for me. I didn't really know what to expect and I have to say...it's a good pain. The big problem was the MESS. I think next time I might treat myself and pay a professional. I know this post is lame. I haven't been very inspired lately. Oh, expect for the fact that I tried to rearrange my living room today, bought 2 old "project" lamps from D.I. and a curtain rod. Yes, that's right, after watching hours of HGTV and perusing home decor blogs, I finally did something. We'll see if anything comes of this. I'm a little doubtful myself, but I did take a before picture of the living room...just in case.
And just to avoid any pictureless posts...
Aunt Kelli winning the Dunkster over. (Little did she know this wasn't really necessary. Her "hippos swim in their poo" comment a month earlier at the zoo pretty much sealed the deal.)

You Pick...Grouchy Mommy or Happy Mommy?
So I'm fortunate enough to have a husband who is more of a morning person than I am (not too difficult considering I could never be considered anything remotely close to a "morning person"). He is more than willing to wake up with Duncan but, unfortunately, Duncan typically doesn't want anything to do with him in the morning. Most mornings I wake up to Duncan crawling in bed with me, wrapping his arms around my neck and kicking, until I realize there will be no more sleeping and give into his requests for "MOMMY". Well, this morning I could hear Jimmy making a noble attempt to keep Duncan out of the room. I knew there was a bowl of cereal already poured and waiting for him but Duncan insisted that I get him cereal. Finally, I looked him straight in the eye and said,
"Duncan, do you want Grouchy Mommy or Happy Mommy. If I get up right now you get Grouch Mommy. If you go eat your cereal and let me sleep a little bit longer, you will get Happy Mommy. So, who do you want?"
He thought about it then replied,"Happy Mommy," and walked out and into the kitchen to eat his cereal. 15 minutes later, just as promised, Happy Mommy made her morning appearance.
Happy Mommy participating.

Dinner Conversation with Duncan
So Dinner began like this. Lovely, huh? I was very proud of my awesome presentation so I thought I would take a picture. The following is what occurred there after. Well, as much as I could remember to write down.
Duncan: I don't like it.
Mom: It's just cheese on top, honey. See? (mixes up cheese and noodles)
Duncan: Oh. I need a bib. (eat, eats, gobble, gobbles)
Duncan: I need a spoon. (puts aside fork)
Mom: Why?
Duncan: Um....(thinks real hard) 'cause my plate is blue.
Mom: Ok. (gets spoon)
Duncan: We eating lunch?
Mom: No. We're eating Dinner. We eat lunch before nap and eat dinner after nap.
Duncan: Oh. I need a fork to eat my pasta.(receives fork, eat eats, gobble gobbles)
Mom: After dinner we're going to go to the bookstore, then home to read our
new books and then to bed.
Duncan: We going to the library?
Mom: No. We borrow books from the library and buy books from the bookstore that
we get to take home and keep forever.
Duncan: And put in my bookcase? In my warm house?
Mom: ...yup, in your warm house.
Duncan: Bennett is my cousin. He is ache in his belly. (*day before, Duncan was
told that Bennett had a sick belly)
Mom: I think he is all better now.
Duncan: He was wrestling?
Mom: (writes frantically to capture cuteness of moment)
Duncan: You spelling a word? You counting numbers? (takes off bib)
Mom: You all done?
Duncan: There's a pea in my bib.
Mom: What are you going to do?
Duncan: Take it out. (dumps pea out) I dump it out on the floor. (giggles).
*Sorry if this seems mundane. It's what keeps me smiling.

Words of a 2 Year Old
"I'm putting Mommy's boobies on" -said while trying to put my bra on.
"You putting on your Halloween costume?" -asked after I put my big fluffy yellow robe on.
"You a princess?" -second question after I added a lovely pink towel on top of my head to the yellow robe ensemble.
"...and then..and then... and then I was born" -said after he had been talking nonstop for like 10 minutes in the car. I had kind of tuned out until I heard this...What?
"All done now" -said matter-of-factly after the opening prayer in Sacrament Meeting.
I know there are some good ones I'm forgetting...Oh well.

So, Duncan Had a Birthday!
Yes, the little man has been 2 now for a whole week! I've been trying to teach him what to say when someone asks you how old you are, but in doing so I think I've really confused him. Jimmy and I asked each other, "How old are you Holly? How old are you Jimmy". Now, whenever I ask Duncan how old he is he says 28. We got him a 24 piece puzzle and a 48 piece puzzle for his birthday. It didn't take him long to master the 24 piece and with just a little guidance he can do the 48 piece. It's really amazing to watch!! He definitely has a gift for puzzles...whatever that means. Anyway, here are the only pictures taken from the big event, none from the actual day. At the last minute we decided to have a little party while we were at Jimmy's parents. Last minute is an understatement...so I was pretty proud of what I could pull off so quickly.

It's Over...
So, I finally finished the last episode of the last season of Gilmore Girls. I normally fast forward during the little musical intro but since it was the last episode I decided to watch it. I cried. Then, I cried at the end. Then, I watched the special features...all of them. I think it's a good thing this little phase of my life has come to an end.
